POWDER PUFF IS COMING! Juniors and Seniors interested in participating in Powder Puff 2009 must attend the informational meeting at lunch on Wednesday, January 7th in room 53. It is the Wednesday that we get back from break. Mark your calendars! 1/7

 

Attention Work Experience students:  There will be a make up class on Wednesday, January 7th during 6th period and after school in portable 5.

 

UPWARD BOUND:  The Cal Poly Pomona, Upward Bound Programs will resume today after school and meet at their regular times and place: Mondays and Wednesdays, room 52 at 3:00pm.

 

GOLF tryouts will be held this Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday after school. Please see Coach Robinson in P1 today after school for the departure schedule. 1/7

 

The Final BASEBALL TRYOUTS will be held Jan. 21st, 22nd, and 23rd.  Any questions please see Coach Castro in room 30, Coach Palmer in room 37, or Coach Holmes in P22.   If you are currently in another sport, please see Coach Castro to set up an alternate date. 1/23.

HOLIDAY BAND/CHOIR CONCERT:  The Music Department is having their annual holiday concert Thursday, December 18th at 6:00 pm in the auditorium.  Come out and enjoy some great music as the band, mariachi, & choir perform.   Our MHS color guard will also perform. Doors open at 5:30pm.

Attention Cavaliers:  It is not too late to help out with the Food and Toy Drive going on right now.  Just bring a new, unwrapped toy or some canned food to your fourth period class this week.   Teachers:  if your fourth period is participating in the drive and you have not already let Mr Mora know, please try to do so by the end of the day.  Students:  if your fourth period class is not participating, you can still make a difference by bringing your items to Mr Mora in room 111.    

 

ATTENTION STUDENTS:  There are two days remaining in the Christmas gram sale.  Come out to the table near the student store at both lunches and buy your significant other a gram, a balloon, a flower, or all three.  The final day of the sale is tomorrow.  Don’t lose out.

 

GSA will meet in room 41 on Thursday after school instead of a lunch meeting.  It will be a holiday get together

Powder Puff Is Coming! Juniors and Seniors interested in participating in Powder Puff 2009 must attend the informational meeting at lunch on Wednesday, January 7th in room 53. It is the Wednesday that we get back from break. Mark your calendars!

 

Guard Tryouts: Today is the last day of winter guard tryouts. If you would like to be part of an award winning team, come to the band room today from 5-7. Everyone is welcome to come and tryout.

 

Reminder: The Varsity and JV football awards ceremony and pot luck is tonight @ 6 PM.

 

Congratulations to the boy basketball team on their 58 to 28 victory over Franklin High School yesterday afternoon.  With the victory they improve their record to 6 wins and 2 losses.  They are also currently on a 3 game winning streak.  They play again tomorrow against Hoover High School.

 

Big Congratulations go to the Frosh and JV Basketball girls, both beating Nogales in last night’s games… Good job girls- keep up the GREAT work!!

Sign up sheets are in the guidance office on the front desk.  You will learn how to help fund your college education. There are many ways to pay for college, and in these tough economic times it is more important than ever to find ways to help pay for your future! Don’t miss out on this important presentation. 12/15

New and gently used books are being collected in English classes and the library. The English class who collects the most books will win a nutritious snack for final exams! 12/5

ATTENTION GIRLS VARSITY WATER POLO:  There is a game @ Santa Fe High School TODAY at 3:00.  The Bus will leave at 1:15.

 

Our Frosh\Soph wrestling team went 5-0 on Wednesday defeating Charter Oak 70-6, Arroyo 63-9, San Dimas 71-6 Mayfair 62-7 and Los Osos 49-15. Good job boys and Congrats on your first tournament championship of the season.

ATTENTION MECHA MEMBERS:  There is a MEChA meeting on Tuesday December the 2nd immediately after school in room 111.  Don't forget to wear black and red and please be on time.   Also, if you have not signed up to go to Disneyland it is not too late to do so.  Tomorrow is the last day to sign up with Mr Mora in room 111.

BOYS’ VARSITY BASKETBALL:  The first home game for the Varsity Boys Basketball team is this Thursday December 4th against Ganesha High School.  Game time is 6:30pm and you may want to get their early to receive a free magnet schedule.

 

WRESTLING:  Our Varsity wrestling team placed 2nd this past weekend at the MHS varsity dual tournament. The team wrestled well and lost a close match to Corona Centennial 42-36 in the championship match. Keep up the hard work boys and the wins will keep coming!

Congratulations and thanks to all who donated blood yesterday at the Blood Drive. Together you donated 93 pints of blood. Each pint helps save 3 lives, so in all, MHS students contributed to saving 273 people. We are definitely thankful for your generosity!

Congratulations to Ms Barillas’s and Mr. Whyte’s second period for winning the College Door Decorating Contest sponsored by the AVID Club.  Your donuts are on the way.  Thanks to everyone who participated.  Your doors looked great.

CAREER CENTER NEWS:  Juniors and seniors; the following Universities and Colleges will be here at Montclair High School…Pitzer College on November 12th during 2nd period, Art Institute on November 14th during both lunches. Anyone interested in free money for college, the Navy will be bringing information on scholarships on November 4th during 2nd period. Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors; the ASVAB test will be administered at Montclair High School on Saturday, November 15th at 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. Sign-ups will take place at the career center in portable 5. 11/5

CAHSEE:  Attention seniors; The CAHSEE test for English and Math will be tomorrow, November 4th and Wednesday, November 5th.  If you haven’t passed one or both of these tests please check the location lists posted on either the cafeteria or auditorium windows to see where you should go the morning of the test.  Be on time by arriving by 7:55am and do not forget to bring your ID.  Remember, if you have not passed either English or Math you must take these tests to graduate.

 

FALL PLAY:  The drama department proudly presents the fall play "John Lennon & Me" this Wednesday through Saturday at 7pm in the Auditorium.  Come and watch this uproarious play about life, death, power and first boyfriends.  Tickets are $6 general and $5 with ASB and can be purchased at the door 30 minutes before the show or from a cast member.  See Ms. Garis in room 106 for more details.
