The Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE) Montclair High School parents will be participating in the Parent Institute for Quality Education. The purpose of the Parent Institute for Quality Education is to encourage and support low-income ethnically-diverse parents of elementary, middle and high school children to take a participatory role in assisting their children. This training is designed to develop skills and techniques that will enable parents to address the educational needs of their school age children.
An initial study indicated that:
The courses are offered on Thursdays in the mornings from 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. and in the evenings from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Sessions are offered in both English and Spanish.
*Specific topics will be determined by parent’s request during the first session The dialogue/forum session is a practicum where the principal and staff members respond to questions from parents and further acquaint parents with the available school resources, opportunities to volunteer, and other programs to continue their education. The course culminates with a graduation ceremony where the parents receive a certificate of completion before their children's eyes. It is a real celebration!
