The Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE)

Montclair High School parents will be participating in the Parent Institute for Quality Education.  The purpose of the Parent Institute for Quality Education is to encourage and support low-income ethnically-diverse parents of elementary, middle and high school children to take a participatory role in assisting their children.  This training is designed to develop skills and techniques that will enable parents to address the educational needs of their school age children.

An initial study indicated that:

  • Fewer children of PIQE graduates than of non-graduates have been involved in disciplinary action and have been absent from school without permission.
  • More PIQE graduates than non-graduates have been in recent contact with their children's teachers, spent a fixed amount of time on homework each night, understand their responsibilities in the education of their children, and feel their children are motivated to go to college.
  • The Parent Institute for Quality Education is creating greater educational awareness among its parent graduates.

The courses are offered on Thursdays in the mornings from 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. and in the evenings from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Sessions are offered in both English and Spanish.
